This lightweight reactive mystery got a new shape and a new construction. One of the sport’s greats – Massi – wanted to take the smoothest high-end wakeboard and make it even smoother. We elongated the Grip & Release channels on the bottom of the board for improved traction without being “bitey” and then rounded the profile for even more of an effortless release off the wake. We added something that has been in the works for years – Pre-Tension Glass. We created a machine that preloads the fibers before it goes into the mold creating a stiffer more reactive take off but still has a soft, predictable landing. The RXT rockerline carries more momentum out into the flats and creates smoother more predictable take offs. Our secret sauce – Blackout Technology – generates added response through a turn, with more feel and security between rider and board when traveling on the water or jumping off the wake. The Story
Ronix Xperimental Technologies came about when there was a shift going away from traditional “pro model” boards and boots.Consumers for the past 30+ years have seen, ridden or heard the storyline of somebody’s new board and how “stoked” they are on it. Many dealers were telling us we just need to focus on more of the entry level price point options because high end sales wouldn’t be as important in the future. So what did we do? The exact opposite. With the RXT we thought this is a chance for every engineer to throw the wildest designs, construction methods, and new materials into a board and boot. For decades we had been making products for athletes – this was a chance for us to make something that we were inspired by. Why not use this wild eco friendly material that is super popular in sail boats, or other materials that we are sworn to blackout secrecy from disclosing. If this series didn’t work we were content because we could all say we got a chance to all contribute to something new that had never been used in a wakeboarding before. For maybe like a year this xperimental technology and everything it was achieving on the water was all the buzz within our company. As we were getting close to finalising things Massi got wind of it – asked if he could try out some of the prototypes – and while he was still on the swim deck from set # 1 asked if he could be the ambassador of this special series. The RXT is a testament to the fact that sometimes you just have to follow your gut (coming up with a board/boot package that was $1300 at the time made 0 sense), and enable product managers, engineers and artists to make, source, and design what they are inspired by. Developing this series was like starting Ronix all over again. We had no rules, no preconceived notions, no reason to be safe – let’s just send it. Years later it’s still one of our best-selling series that was so collaborative and anti-conformist at the same time.
This graphic is such a perfect expression for the RXT. Think you have this board pegged as another clean, metal flake top – and then you flip it over and are blinded by 12 passes of screened neon inks.
Wake 101
3-STAGE ROCKER
An exaggerated rocker line with a later arc and a higher degree provides a more straight up explosive pop. This style of rocker creates more of an instant buck off the wake (combine that with our Blackout Technology to experience everything a wake has to offer), for riders that are behind a big boat wake. Wakeboarders riding behind smaller wakes will still feel like they are getting a solid kick as well.
HYBRID ROCKER
A combination of the traits of 3-Stage and Continuous rocker lines. Designed for a high-end rider that, depending on how they edge into the wake, the rocker will dictate what style of snap they will have. Also, for a mid-level rider that isn’t sure what style of hangtime they are looking for.
CONTINUOUS ROCKER
An earlier arc with a mellower degree will have a smoother, more consistent glide up the wake. A rider will be able to carry more speed up the transition and land tricks farther out into the flats. Not quite the straight up snap of its counterpart, but they’ll have a faster, more predictable, effortless takeoff.
INSTANT ENERGY
Instant energy takes place the second the tip of the board hits the wake. This allows a quicker way to generate lift off the transition as energy takes place sooner with a super firm snap off the wake. For riders that can handle the added kick. We rate all our boards from 1 to 10.
NEUTRAL ENERGY
Doesn’t have the radioactive amplitude of instant energy, or the postponed kick of its stored counterpart. Neutral energy prefers to sit quietly in the middle of takeoff purgatory – not too quick, not too late. Nothing wrong with riding sans stigma.
STORED ENERGY
Created for a rider who approaches and leaves the wake the way a snowboarder would a kicker or a skater would an ollie. The delay in the energy means the rider is given more time to generate the full lift from the power building from the tip all the way to the tail of the board. If riders don’t have that snow / skate timing off the wake – no problem – they will just have a mellower lift. A construction that’s easier on your body.
